What about Peanuts?

Peanuts have been getting a bit of a bad reputation lately. And while gorging through half a jar of Jiffy doesn't fall in line with healthy living, having a few peanuts to satisfy your sweet tooth won't hurt you at all. Actually, it just may help.

Did you know that peanuts are really not nuts? Isn't that nuts? (haha). They're legumes and are more related to beans and soy. And they're rich in protein, fat (good fat, MUFA- I'll explain in a later post), Vitamin E, and have been proven to promote heart health.

I love peanuts all around, but consuming them in the praline form is rather heavenly and puts them on a whole new level of tasty. I buy these from the organic section in the commercial grocery stores. Just a small handful is enough to satiate my sweet cravings and hold off the guilt. Put the Snickers down, pick up a few of these instead. But stay moderate, 1/3 cup equates to 280 calories!
