Okay, so I'm kind of too dependent on my brown rice bowls but I can't help it! They're easy to make ( I always go for easy) and are delicious. Get a rice cooker to speed up the process a bit though. Brown rice takes a while to cook because it hasn't been through all of the refining and stripping that white rice has.
So is brown rice really that much better for you than white rice? Heck. Yes. Brown rice hasn't been refined like white rice, and still carries its natural hull and bran. So what? Well, because of that, you get:
1. more proteins, calcium, fiber and potassium.
2. Regularity! "Real, real regulah **in my Diddy voice** The high fiber content makes for ease on digestion.
3. Regulates cholesterol. The oils in brown rice serve as a healthy fat and help to stabilize cholesterol.
4. Can help prevent cancer. The fiber in brown rice clings to cancer causing substances and toxins and eventually eliminates them.
